Trying some new stuff again. Tripod mounted 300D, Sigma 28-135mm zoom lens and lit by a desktop reading lamp. The light was shaped by 2 carefully placed envelopes. I think i got the result i wanted. Still not as sharp as i would have expected, but worst of all, all the dust on the little statue looks so much worse now :-)
Great stuff. The lighting has worked really well, and shows you don't need expensive kit to get a great lighting setup (although it helps!). My only critisism is that it doesn't look tack sharp (the head looks a bit blurred whereas the foot doesn't), and there's a little bit of the background (or flare?) captured in the top right. Great stuff though. CurlyToes @ Thursday 24 November 2005
Great for a first go at this sort of stuff, these white background shots can be tricky to get right, as can close up focussing. Great lighting though, the little bit in the top right could be cloned out really easily i think. SteveO @ Thursday 24 November 2005
Very creative use of envelopes! Because of the very limited DOF macro shots require near perfect focosing on a precise spot. They take lots of practice. Keep at it and have fun! Rock @ Thursday 24 November 2005
I like the colour of the background. Though I think theres too much light reflecting on the statue. Phil @ Thursday 24 November 2005
Experiementing with lighting like this is always fun! I was just about to do the same thing with another figure of mine. My only complaints about this is the lack of focus on the figure and the weird thing in the upper right corner. Derrick @ Friday 25 November 2005
